Red Shoes

Red is such a fantastic color. Whether worn as a primary color in an outfit or as an accent. Red looks good on just about anybody and anything. I have been on the hunt for a pair of great red shoes. Believe it or not, the are somewhat hard to find. So imagine my delight when I found this vintage number at a thrift store. They are leather, pointy, and timeless (well I like to think they are).

I had another great day. It was training mostly, which is always a good thing, since that way one has some clue as to what they are doing. I got new glasses recently (I only wear them to drive and watch TV). I love this design because they give a nod to the cats eye style of yesteryear, while still being hip. The hubs says I look like an old woman to which I quipped back "That's right, because they have style."  He says the same thing about my vintage purses. (This coming from a man who loves polo shirts.)  Well enough of my rambling, below is what I wore today.  Tomorrow, I'm thinking of wearing a floral white number I recently scored for $1.

It. Is. HOT.

It is close to 100 degrees outside and feels like a furnace. The inside of my house feels the same since I don't have air conditioning. I feel for my poor Maya who must be so uncomfortable (she is sitting in between two fans, panting). The new job starts in a little more than a week! I am starting to get excited, but it still doesn't feel real yet.

I truly believe that things work themselves out. Sometimes it doesn't seem that way in the moment, but when one looks back at the series of circumstances as a whole, it all starts to makes sense. This new job feels the same way. Savoring it is important, because at some point I will feel overworked and under appreciated and at that time, I have to remember how I felt at this moment. That is just the way the work world is sometimes. That shouldn't deter one from doing their best and having personal integrity. At the end of the day you can't change someone else's behavior, you can only change your own and hope other's use that as a guiding example. Influence is a powerful thing, most of the time we don't even know we have it.

I wanted to wear something bright and cheery today. After a week of mostly black outfits (I really love black and as a result, my closet is full of items in that color). I thrifted the skirt some time ago and it is actually purple, for some reason it comes out blue when photographed. The shirt is from JC Penny and the shoes are from Daffy's. This is out of my normal comfort zone, but since I have only a week or so left, I thought I would go out with a bang.

I Got the Job!

I got an offer for the interview #2!  Some much needed validation, since interview #1 didn't yield good results.  Now comes of the hard part of trying to decide to accept or not.  I will hear about the promotion this week as well, so hopefully by Friday I'll have enough info to make a sound decision.  I told my boss that I got an offer.  It is only fair, given I really like her and the people I work with.  I've been told that it is a good thing for one's employer to know that they may lose a valued employee (according to my boss I'm a valued employee, well that's what she tells me anyway).  Regardless, I think the outcome will be a good one.

The renovation of the craft room is coming along nicely.  I have primed the walls, added texture to all of them, and have painted 3 walls.  I still need to add texture to the slanted portions (I have a cape cod style home) and paint the remaining walls.  I decided to go with a cheery lime green for the walls.  The accessories will be burgundy and deep purple.  I can't wait for it to be completed so that I can share with all of you.  Bright green may seem over the top, but hey, you only live once.  On glum days I am hoping the in-your-face-be-happy color will cheer me up.  Now many of you may wonder why on earth I would texture my walls.  Very simple: hideous, shellacked, poorly installed wood paneling.  After 4 layers of primer, the shellack was still bleeding through.  Fortunately, it is not bleeding through the paint.  I don't have the funds to hire someone to redo the upstairs with sheetrock and such, so the best alternative was texture.  The paint is a matte finish, so the texture does not look bad.  The walls look generally even, which is a much welcome change from before.  I'm thinking I will be done with this project this weekend and then I can FINALLY get to some sewing and crafts.  I can't wait, it will be stupendous :).  Below is what I wore today.  This dress is thrifted and a size 8.  It fit a whole lot better when I weighed more.  Now at a size 0, it is a wee bit big.  Hence the oversized belt.  Once the craft room is complete, this will be one dress in the alterations pile.  I hope everyone had a lovely 4th.

Snow!

I have been a bit lazy the last few days and have not posted anything.  I ended up falling asleep.  It has been extremely cold the last few days.  There must be some sort of weather system passing through.  Today we got some flurries, so naturally everyone decided to become paranoid and drive 5 miles an hour all the way to work this morning.  It was great fun.  Anyway,  my outfit choices thus far have been so so.  I had a client meeting yesterday and wore a suit, which is a nice change from the usual.  Today I ended up wearing all velvet, which is a little different.  The end of the year is finally drawing to a close.  It is amazing how fast this year has gone by.  Anyway, here are my outfits for the last three days.

Laid Back Friday

Another week has come to an end.  I have been enjoying my netflix movie service.  I love the instant movie thing, it is fabulous.  Anyway, today I decided to wear jeans.  This is a rare event for me, since I rarely wear jeans to work.  However, the combination of the cold weather and not having enough pants that fit (they are to big), jeans seemed like a decent alternative.  It is a Friday afterall.  So here is my outfit:  jeans are Paris Blue, top is from H&M, and shoes are Jessica Simpson.

Cultural Weekend - Day 54

This was a cultural weekend for me.  I went to a religious festival yesterday with the hubs and a friend.  That was fun since I got to wear a sari.  Today was cleaning the house day before mom comes (tomorrow).  Needless to say not everything is done.  Oh well, I'm not going to worry about it.  Here's to a good week before the start of my European adventure.  This is what I wore today: the t-shirt is target, I don't remember where I got the sweater, skirt, or boots.  The sari was a gift.

Fall Color Tour - Day 33 and 34

We had a lovely weekend.  On Saturday we went to Monticello, NY so the hubs could drive on a race track.  This was his first experience and he seemed to enjoy it.  I was a passenger and a professional race car driver drove a couple of laps, it was fun.  Then today we explored a little bit of southern Vermont.  It was breathtaking.  The fall color was in all it's glory.  Since it was slightly overcast, the colors seemed more brilliant.  This is my first trip to Vermont and I can see why the people who live there love their state.  I don't know how anyone can be in bad mood when they wake up to stunning vistas everyday.  The landscape is very mountainous, so it makes the scenery very dramatic.

Here is a picture of a pretty spot in Monticello, where we went on Saturday.  We happened upon this lovely spot as we were driving to Vermont.  The picture next to is what I ended up wearing.  I was feeling a bit daring and decided to go for the mini skirt.  My newfound weight loss has had the added benefit of increased self confidence.  The jacket is Moda internation, the top is ICE, the skirt is r21, the leggings are from a store in the mall (I think they are called the sock store-I know very original), and I don't remember where I got the shoes.

We stayed near Lake George, NY, another beautiful place.  Lake George is located in the Adirondeck region of New York.  The following morning after breakfast we took these pictures of the lake.

Afterwards we made our way to Rutland, Vermont.  The drive itself was stunning.  It was slightly overcast today, so the colors on the leaves really popped out.  Here are few pictures.

This is what I wore today.  The weather was really lovely (in the 60's) so it made this whole weekend very enjoyable.  I absolutely love this color green.  Something about the shade is incredibly soothing.  I don't remember where I bought the sweater.  The skirt is from Old Navy, the tights are Anne Klein, and I don't remember where I got the shoes.

Another Day at the Office - Day 18

Today was a rainy and all around gloomy day.  Since the weather forecast had predicted as much, it inspired my outfit.  Bright green is such a cheery color I decided to go with that.  I didn't take my picture this morning, as is my usual routine, since I was running late.  Needless to say being tired in the afternoon is not much better than being bleary eyed in the morning (as far as appearance in photographs go).  Regardless, as this project progresses, I'm sure I'll have at least one decent picture among the bunch.  Without much futher ado here is my outfit for the day.  The shirt and pants are from New York & Company.  The vest is Carole Little and the shoes are thrifted.

Purple, the Color of Kings- Day 11

It has been said that purple was a favored color among royalty.  I can certainly see why, it is a color that is both mysterious and elegant at the same time.  It is a color that flatters everyone and it comes in may hues and shades.  As you have probably already guessed, my outfit today has a lot of purple.  I have been wanting to wear this top for some time, but it didn't fit.  Now that I have lost some weight, it fits perfectly!  So without further delay here  is my outfit.  The top and skirt are thrifted.  The shoes are Madden Girl (from DSW).

End of Week 1- Day 7

Today was yet another beautiful day.  A reminder of why I love summer.  We spent the day running errands, as usual.  I couldn't get to post until late today because I was up cooking (I'm trying very hard to develop some domestic skills).  The weekend felt short, perhaps this was a result of the lovely weather.  My outfit today comes with a bit of nostalgia.  This skirt was a gift from my husband, back in the days when we were still dating.  It was one of the first things he gave me.  It certainly made a good impression.  Thou it is starting to look tired, I just can't get rid of it.  I am of the sentimental variety and have trouble getting rid of things with great emotional value.  I can't remember where I got the top, it is several years old.  The shoes are Sketchers and I bought them at DSW.

The hint of a slight chill welcomes fall- Day 3

The weather has had a distinct chill these last few days, hinting that summer has come to an end.  Still, I can't help but try to hang on to summer just a little bit longer.  Hence the outfit for today.  Despite the long sleeved top, the skirt reminds me of summer with its plethora of multi colored roses.  This is one of my favorite skirts and I wear it spearingly in the fear that I will damage it somehow.  Today was yet another beautiful day.  I bought tickets to Europe for November yesterday.  One of my mother's dreams is go to Europe.  My father had promised her such a trip, but passed away before he could fulfill that promise.  Since that horrible day I have been planning to complete the promise that he couldn't.  The opportunity didn't present itself until now.  It is afterall the least I can do for her as her daughter.  Well that's enough of my rambling.  Without further ado, here is my outfit for today.  The skirt is thrifted.
